Discover WoCo Fest 2024: Evolve, an eclectic three day festival celebrating music by women and gender-marginalized composers, produced by Boulanger Initiative and co-presented by Strathmore. Experience the evolution of music spanning centuries, from a Baroque ensemble to a collection of all-new jazz standards, an interactive sound installation, and so much in between. The opening concert will feature some of DC’s finest musicians, followed by a day of musical exhibitions, live composer workshops, and transformative discussions. The festival will close out with an electrifying performance by 4x Grammy Award-winning jazz drummer, Terri Lyne Carrington.

Embark on a musical odyssey at the Opening Concert of WoCo Fest 2024: Evolve! Be dazzled with a world-premiere performance by Thalea String Quartet, a charming Bandoneon and cello duo, grooves from local star Be Steadwell, and so much more to discover. The opening concert will highlight a vast array of talented DC-based musicians that capture the imagination, with something for the whole family to enjoy.

Sat, April 13, beginning at 1pm at The Mansion at Strathmore

Fulfill your wanderlust by immersing yourself in a day of music exploration at the second day of WoCo Fest 2024: Evolve at The Mansion at Strathmore! Be enthralled by a mesmerizing, interactive sound installation, live composer workshops, and engaging events from artists, composers, and scholars. Explore exhibitor booths from Ebony Music, Women in Music DC, Washington Women in Jazz, Key of She Jazz, Sleepy Puppy Press, Aubrey Bergauer’s Run It Like a Business, and more, get free headshots with M3 Mitchell Media & Marketing, and enjoy dining and shopping opportunities. Food trucks will be on site during the day and there will be a public food and wine reception after the final performance by Sarah Cahill.

WOCO FEST 2024 EVOLVE: TERRI LYNE CARRINGTON’S NEW STANDARDS

Celebrate the electrifying finale of WoCo Fest 2024: Evolve with jazz legend, Terri Lyne Carrington. Terri Lyne is a four-time Grammy Award-winning drummer, producer, and educator, and has performed on more than 100 recordings spanning her 40-year career. She has worked tirelessly to fight for inclusivity and elevate the voice of women, trans, and non-binary jazz musicians, serving as the Founder and Artistic Director of the Berklee Institute of Jazz and Gender Justice. Experience the thrill of New Standards, a project that kicks down the doors of the jazz patriarchy and celebrates women’s incredible contributions to the jazz canon, past and present, by bringing them to the mainstage.
