1:30 PM - 2:30 PM

Kirsten Lies-Warfield is an active composer-performer who has presented her work across the U.S. In 1999, she became the first woman trombonist to serve in the United States Army Band, ‘Pershing’s Own.’ Her musical appetites are diverse as evidenced by the company she keeps. She is a member of the contemporary music group Great Noise Ensemble, the Arlington Philharmonic and the ethno-funk band, Black Masala. Her compositions serve to express her unique experiences and to redefine solo trombone literature.

2:30 PM - 3:30 PM

Molly Joyce is a composer and performer whose work uses disability as a creative source. With music described as a “serene power” (New York Times), written to “superb effect” (The Wire), and “impassioned” (The Washington Post), she will be performing “Breaking and Entering,” a selection of songs featuring her voice, vintage toy organ, and electronic layering of both sources.

3:30 PM - 4:30 PM

Gemma Peacocke is a composer from New Zealand who currently resides in Princeton, NJ. Gemma’s music works in both acoustic and electronic sound worlds, and she is interested in how music can amplify the voices of under-heard groups of people. She is a co founder of Kinds of Kings, a collective of US- based composers focused on producing immersive and inclusive work. She will be directing a guided discussion on Entrepreneurialism. What does it take to become an “entrepreneur” in 2020? How do you build something from the ground up that can make a real impact? With little to no access in music schools to courses on marketing, fundraising, production, curation, and other necessary skills to build a startup in the arts, how does one go about learning these? Learn the inside scoop in this discussion led by Kind of Kinds co-founder and composer Gemma Peacocke, joined by Alexandra Gardner and Molly Joyce.
